The song is the product of my attempt to break out of a musical rut and create something with a slightly different sound - drawing on both rock and blues influences and exploring more complex chord voicings.
I would love to know how this song is received - any comments welcome. I am also trying to nail down my sound and the specific genre I fit into - what are your thoughts on where this would fit in today's musical landscape?
Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment Amber!
I’ve actually re-written this one since posting it and the re-write straitens out the timeline a little bit. I haven’t gotten around to recording the new one yet though.

Verse 1:
Teenage boy saving all his dollars
To buy himself his first guitar
Spends every night and day
Trying to teach himself to play
In his mind he's gonna be a rock star
Young man living in the shadow of the Rockies
Finds himself thinking more and more
About that kid
And the things he never did
Now he's wondering what he waited for
Pre-Chorus:
It’s the only place he's ever called home
Now he's thinking it's not where he's supposed to be
He grabs his guitar, throws his stuff in the car
He's 16 hours from Tennessee
Chorus:
Got the windows rolled down, Country song playin'
Turned up loud, guitars waylin'
Songs about life, cutting through the night
And right into his soul
He checks the map, set's his destination
No looking back, no reservations
He comes alive, feels his dreams takin’ flight
He smiles. Eleven-hundred-fifty more miles
Verse 2:
He’s been playing all his life
But he’s never got it right
Now he’s wondering if he waited too long
Every night he cries 'cause he knows he's got to fight
If he wants the world to hear his song
Working during the day
He’s got bills he’s got to pay
Just to keep his world from caving in
He hardly ever sleeps, plays until his fingers bleed
But there ain’t no way he’s giving in
Chorus
Final Pre-Chorus:
He sees the red sandstone lit up in the night
In his mind he hears the music play
Tells himself again he’ll be back there in the end
And the journey’s got to start today
Chorus

I really like the title-Eleven-hundred-Fifty More Miles-I like how you sang this line in the song. I really liked the chorus melody. At the beginning you talk about him saving up to buy a guitar as a teenager and then in the 2 Vrs. it says he’s been playing all his life.
