I wrote this song with two good friends, Matt Dame and Neal Coty. Matt Dame is singing the heck out of this one. The two lovely ladies in the photo are my girls, Emily and Ruby Jean. I'm glad they let me run with them.
Great song. I agree that the perspective, metaphorically is very well done. Good job!

Very nice. I like how you stay in the river/rock metaphor with the right amount of, well, depth… it doesn’t feel worn out or get too fancy. “If she’d a pushed me I’d a been gone” sticks out, in a good way; intrigues me. Makes me wish there was a bridge about it, a temporary pivot out of the metaphor to give us more about the relationship? Something more. It’s good just like it is, anyway.

SHE’S A RIVER
(Brent Baxter, Matt Dame, Neal Coty)
VERSE:
I had a heart made of granite
A chip on my shoulder
Drew a hard line chiseled in stone
Unmoving, unbending
Stubborn and proud
I made a point not to go with the flow
But in spite of all that, she saw something inside
And the reason that woman’s the love of my life
CHORUS:
She don’t try to break me
She just rolls and takes me
Wherever she wants to go
And I’m moved by her deepness
Swept up in her sweetness
As she winds her way through my soul
My rough edges get smoother the longer she lets me run with her
I’m a rock, she’s a river
VERSE:
She’s calm on the surface
But don’t let her fool ya
There’s power like you’ve never seen
She’s strong and she’s steady
Patiently pulling me
Into the man I should be
If she would’ve pushed me, I’d ‘a been gone
But she’s taking her time, and I’m coming along… No
CHORUS: [REPEAT]
TAG: I’m a rock, she’s a river

Wow! Inspired! There’s so many songs that have been written about wives, girlfriends etc. but I can’t say that I’ve recalled one taking this perspective before. Really great and very relatable! My type of country song. Hope this gets picked up. I’d love to hear an update. Thanks for inspiring me to keep it simple. Sometimes I think I try too hard and end up overthinking my concepts. Lovely family you have there as well. Thanks for sharing this with us!
