About This Song

So, this song could be seen from a man or woman's perspective. It is a simple story of loss and the aftermath that inevitably follows.

Hi Mariel, thank you for sharing your song with us. I think you have your own unique style and that is something you can be proud of. I like at most how the song is musically structured and progresses. The lyric itself is not really touching me, the story is a bit stale and probably has been told in a way like this too often.
But all in all nice work.

Hey Frank,
Thanks for your constructive criticism! As they say in the opera world, the only ones who don’t crack a high note are the ones who don’t try!

Mariel, this is a beautiful song. I really like the message and think you did a terrific job making it yours. The song reminds me of something out of a Broadway show or movie. Who knows, you may have the start of the next Hamilton? (I.e. Dear Theodosia?). If that’s your voice, it’s really lovely. Clean and melodic, and the harmonies (I’m thinking you too) are lovely. All in all, fabulous!

Jefferey,

You are too kind my friend. Yes, that’s me, harmonies and all. Thank you for your support and encouragement. The thought of a broadway show has crossed my mind, the subject, yet to be determined. Still, so sweet of you. Thank you, thank you. I look forward to listening to your work as well. Keep writing!!

Hi Mariel, This is a very unique sound and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your song, thank you for sharing it. I couldn’t put my finger on the musical style, some parts seemed almost island sounding while the chorus reminded me of a kind of “9 to 5” Dolly’esq type of sound. You have a great voice, its very soothing. In the case of iron sharpening iron, I would have to say my concern is not being able to connect with the song due to too many topics & not enough information. In my humble opinion I feel like maybe this song was written with more focus on the emotions of an experience with Anna rather than telling the listener the story of what happened between the person and Anna. For that reason I think it is more suited for Broadway/Movie etc format where the viewer already knows the story and therefor can relate to and connect to the emotions described within the song. I think it would be easier to connect with more listeners if it only revolved around a single topic, like making the Verses be about a single or a main problem with Anna and the Chorus about the outcome of the situation. etc. Of course this is only my preference and opinion. Overall, I loved the song, the vocals were great you have a beautiful voice, the harmonies were on point and the melody was nice as well. I look forward to hearing more music from you. Wish you much success on your musical journey!

This is such a nice song, reminds me a lot of ABBA. I love the harmonies and how you tied in dear Anna with the letter at the end.

Dear Anna
I have tried to explain myself to you
Dear Anna
After all of the things we've been through
Dear Anna
I can't help it if you can't face the truth
I won't take it, I'm gonna make it without you

Dear Anna
I didn't live up to the things you had in mind
Dear Anna
All I ever wanted was to be kind
Dear Anna
You go your way and I'll go mine
I'm done chasin' I'm through wastin' my precious time

Chorus:
They say it takes two to dance, but honey someone's gotta lead, you never gave me the chance, just stepped back and watched me bleed
It was love and I fell, now it's really hard to tell between a truth and a lie, and so I'll say goodbye

Dear Anna
I see you've already found someone new
Dear Anna
I guess that proves just how much I meant to you
Dear Anna
For once I know exactly what to do
There's no more cryin', I'm done tryin' to love you

(repeat chorus)

Dear Anna
I wake up in the morning on my own
Dear Anna
I can't tell you how it feels to be alone
Dear Anna
You can never seem to reach me on the phone
Please read this letter, it tells you all you need to know

Yeah read this letter, it tells you all you need to know
