About This Song

The co-writer (Sherwood Lumsden) of this song and I were playing a gig and an older woman came up and asked for one more song...for some reason this hit Sherwood like a ton of bricks and he deflected her to me while he quickly wrote out most of the existing chorus...and a song was born...One More Song.

Feedback Requested

And and all feedback is welcome as always....However...

As this song version was recorded in 1996 I am thinking that it could use with a more modern or less traditional country sounding recording to make it pitchable to today's artists...what do YOU think and hear?

Hi Tony, I think the song is well crafted, but if you listen to today’s Country charts you will not find a lot of songs like this. I guess you know MIDLAND? They do this retro stuff and that’s the only major artist/band I can imagine to cover a song like this, however the lyric maybe also a bit dull and old fashioned in comparison to what they are doing. I wouldn’t waste time and money on this song, it’s well produced and it’s okay the way it is. I’m sure you can write something new which will fit better in todays market.

Hi Tony, Cool song, especially the way it came to be…but I like your other songs much better.

Hi Tony, I do like your song, it is well written and the music sounds good, but I think it’s one of those really good songs back in the day. I have a few like that too. Perhaps you could keep an eye out for any license opportunities that may look for some thing like this. I enjoyed it and thanks for sharing.

One More Song

Written by Tony True

Verse 1
I sang the last song of the set and put down my guitar
And waved good night to the empty stools around the bar
When a woman wandered over from the back of the room
She said, "son you're not done I have to hear one more tune"

Chorus
So give us one more darling, give us one more song
My heart is aching and the night is long
Give us one more darling, give us one more song
I'm not ready to go home tonight

Verse 2
I was down and tired, ready to pack up and leave
But you cannot ignore someone's grandmother tugging on your sleeve
So I said, "okay Mamm I'll play one more just for you"
She said, "anything by Hank Williams Sr. will do"

Chorus
Give us one more darling, give us one more song
My heart is aching and the night is long
Give us one more darling, give us one more song
I'm not ready to go home tonight

Verse 3
She did a one person two step, dancing all alone to Jambalaya
And the years rolled off of her shoulders, a light came to her eye
That music was a lifeline tied to when she was a girl
When I finished that song I said, "Mamm let's give it one more whirl"

Chorus
Give us one more darling, give us one more song
My heart is aching and the night is long
Give us one more darling, give us one more song
I'm not ready to go home tonight
No I'm not ready to go home tonight
Yes I need to hear one more song tonight
