About This Song

Accompanied by a children's choir, singer David Brodie on "One Night" gives a picturesque narrative on how Santa only has One Night to get around the world and no matter the obstacles he always find a way. Maybe one of the few Holiday tunes that shows love to Mrs. Claus smile.

Hi Tre,

Nice production. Nice groove. Sounds like your song could easily be aimed at movie and tv placements. And, you have a tough assignment—-saying something new about Christmas.  Here, the nod to Mrs. Claus is different.

Still, for me, that uniqueness got lost in the shifting viewpoints:

First verse: addresses general audience
First pre-chorus: addresses Mrs. Claus
Chorus: addresses general audience
Second verse: addresses children/general audience
Second pre-chorus: addresses children/general audience
Final pre-chorus: addresses Mrs. Claus

A consistent viewpoint throughout the song and added details in the verses would help to maximize this song’s potential.  Great job.

Hi Lee, Thanks for the feedback, it’s well noted!. There’s an interesting dichotomy with this tune. It was self released in 2016 and is a favorite among quite a few year round Christmas music programmers, also to most of the general public who’ve heard it. On the contrary I pitched it to a couple of publishers and their take was similar to yours, it’s a good song but it needs a re-write to remain more consistent. It’s interesting because the people like it, as is, but the industry not quite as much. Maybe you can suggest a direction to satisfy the gatekeepers?. Of course the ultimate goal is to get it placed and have it live forever. Thanks, Tre

P.S. Btw, we have a few of the same influences = Smokey Robinson, Gamble and Huff, Stax smile

Hi Lee , thanks again for the valued input, you’re advice / critique helped me settle on a definitive direction, I’ve already sketched out 80% of the fixes. Going to take my time to fill in the blanks to get the proper emotion. I look forward to hearing some of your music on the site!. Best, Tre

DAVID BRODIE - DECEMBER 24TH ...

Written by Tre Carn

(Intro - Children’s Choir)
Christmas time is on it’s way tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight (it’s alright)
Yes it’s on it’s way tonight

(FIRST VERSE)
Well about 1000 miles away
Lives a big ole jolly man
With presents on his sleigh
He’s got the toughest job to do
This happy holiday
He’s on the case it’s time to hit the road
Check the reindeer name by name (oh)

(PRE CHORUS)
Say goodbye now Mrs Claus
You know he can’t be late
Santa’s flying in tonight
And the kids can hardly wait

(CHORUS)
Cause if he’s only got one night
He’s gonna make it right
To get around the world in time
Bringing brand new toys to all believin’ (oh tonight)
Kids are watching all the skies
Waiting for that midnight ride
Staying awake all through the evening (whoa)

(SECOND VERSE)
You’ve been waiting all year long
Well you made an almost endless list
Of every single thing you want
And everyone is so excited
Santa’s on his way
Oh we spent the day just singing along
As the sounds of Christmas play on

(PRE CHORUS)
Give thanks to Mrs Claus
For helping to load the sleigh
Oh there’s so much snow tonight
But the man can find a way

(CHORUS)
Cause if he’s only got one night
He’s gonna make it right
To get around the world in time
Bringing brand new toys to all believin’ (oh tonight)
Kids are watching all the skies
Waiting for that midnight ride
Staying awake all through the evening (oh) that’s right

(Interlude - Children’s Choir)
Christmas time is on it’s way tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight

Repeat (Pre Chorus)
Say goodbye now Mrs Claus
You know he can’t be late
Santa’s got so far to go
And it’s so hard to wait

Repeat (Chorus)
Cause if he’s only got one night
He’s gonna make it right
To get around the world in time
Bringing brand new toys to all believin’ (oh tonight)
Kids are watching all the skies
Waiting for that midnight ride
Staying awake all through the evening (oh) that’s right

(Outro)
Christmas time is on it’s way tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight
Oh staying awake tonight
Just watching all the skies, for the midnight ride

(End Tag)
Yes you know it’s true Santa’s only got til light
So he’s gonna make it right if he’s only got one night
