About This Song

This is typical of the genre which is most comfortable for me, although I write from children's lullabies to heavy metal. This song has been used in two independent films, a commercial and a soap opera.

Vocal intonation (though with this genre of music, you may feel that singing on pitch is not absolutely necessary, and I’m not being sarcastic when I say that)—There is a nice “quietness” to the song.

Thanks for your taking the time to listen. I smiled when I read your response as it’s always nice to have someone recognize the what’s important in the presentation of certain genres. This song has been VERY good to me.

Hi Laure,
You already know how I feel about your music.  These cerebral lyrics are very thought provoking and quite deep…love ‘em!  The melody of the verse is quite memorable…this song has a lovely ambience and it comes from the depths of your soul…..the non-comformity and design of this piece makes it very unique, interesting and indeed beautiful.

Wow, you write some super interesting and highly creative and unique songs! I really like this song, and the slight off key vocals in parts, adds to the overall haunting effect! The guitar track definitely sounds like a clock ticking off time, which I’m sure is what you were aiming for, and is very powerful and effective.

Thanks Reid. This song has been good to me. It’s been used in two independent movies and, a soap opera and a medical show pilot ( that never made it).  Ya, the pitch was kinda edgy but my publisher made me keep it that way for the emotional effect. Thanks for listening.

I keep coming back to this song of yours Laurie..and have been sharing it with friends, and they all love it!

“It’s the ticking of the clock
and the beating of your heart
makes the music rock and roll
then the music lost it’s soul”

Those lines are amazing, and the changes to Bb to C for those parts is very effective.

Reid, I am honestly honored that the song has become special to you. I think the major job of a songwriter is to try to have that kind of effect on the listener. I thank you.

I have connected emotionally with your song, and it moves me emotionally. One of my favorite lines out of all my favorite songs, is this one, out of the song “Time” by Pink Floyd: “Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time. Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines.”

Your song hits me in my soul the same way and is one of my biggest fears.

These lines are also golden and genius: “and the rags that led to riches, little match girls turned to bitches”

I had to look up what match girls meant, and I now understand the power of those lines.

It’s The Coming of...

Written by Fly (Laurie) Williams

It's The Coming of The Time
Lyrics Laurie Williams (c) 2007
Williams and Williams

It's the coming of the time
and the timing of the truth
it's the rhythm not the rhyme
in a rhyme that I called youth

It's the ticking of the clock
and the beating of your heart
makes the music rock and roll
then the music lost it's soul

it's the dreams that lit your dark
when the dark stole all your light
and the lightness of your step
are but steps that lead to night

chorus
and the rags that led to riches
little match girls turned to bitches
who can glitter and out shine
their useless time
and the poor that scored it big time
turning rubbish into headlines
can they out do every slaughter
in their time?
