A prayer for unity. For compassion. For America.

Guy, I did like the song and wish there were more songs embracing our country. Long after I listened to the song, I had an earworm singing, “Calling, calling to America…”
Thanks for sharing!

Jack,
Thank you for the note. And that earworm attacked me first; the writing of this was my attempt (unsuccessful), to get it out of my head

Wow, I love your melody for your chorus! I will probably get the earworm now and I’ll send you the doctor bill LOL! The verses sound great too, especially the second part or maybe it’s your prechorus.
You are a gifted guitar player, and I like your style of playing and the riffs, fills and lead guitar parts. ‘
Awesome job on the song!

Reid,
Happy to pick up the tab for the earworm…
Thank you for such kind words; (I wish that was me playing the riffs on this one, but it is actually a very talented ‘friend of a friend’ who just did me a cool favor)-

Not so long ago a boat set sail
From the Old World across the sea,
Left their homes and they took their wives
And uprooted the family trees,
And the burnin' fire,
The lone desire
Was a longing to be free...
And I'm calling, calling to America
By the light of the lady on the island,
Calling, calling to America,
Let her light shine over the land.
Years went by and the countryside
Was invaded by man and machine,
Years of toil burning midnight oil
Gave birth to an American Dream,
Now a nation tries
To turn its eyes
From the nightmare that it sees...
And I'm calling, calling to America
By the light of the lady on the island,
Calling, calling to America,
Let her light shine over the land.
(Pre-lead and lead)
Now it's time for us all to find
What our forefathers thought it could be,
Just look around in your own hometown,
In their eyes, you know it's easy to see,
That the burnin' fire,
The lone desire's
Still a longing to be free...
And I'm calling, calling to America
By the light of the lady on the island,
Calling, calling to America,
Let her light shine over the land.
(Repeat)

Intro put me off (seemed to not hold together musically)—I spent a long time as a piano player in USAF Bands, so that may color my perception about attempts at patriotic music, but sadly I wasn’t moved by this (as a patriotic song).
