About This Song

This song is about someone having enough of a situation, but being asked to stay a little longer. I was envisioning Chris Stapleton style male vocals, bluesy guitar and everything that goes along with the pop country style. Its a rough recording of just me and my guitar but I'll likely try to make a demo out of it.

Feedback Requested

I welcome any and all feedback ...but especially on the lyrics. If anyone else wants to cowrite with this one, I'm open to that too.

Hi Sandra, I like the lyric, some very nice images. Maybe it needs some tweaks, some lines are a bit wordy (second line of the chorus and second line of the second verse). Just try to skip the line ‘I told you that way back then’ in the chorus - I think you don’t need it.
Also I would like to know why he/she should hold on - ‘all these years’ shouldn’t be the only reason why.
Try to go a bit deeper into emotions, let us feel the hurt.
Have you tried to sing this in a lower key? It sounds you are very close to your limits here.
I think the song is worth to work on it!

Sandra, I really enjoy listening to the “angst” in your vocal tone. Nice lyrics & melody.
Best of luck!

I take it this was written for a male voice, at least that’s the impression I get. I think you managed to convey a good sense of the situation with a few lines. I think the ending is a little weak, though. You might want to make that stronger.

Verse 1:

G
I know why your key is in that ignition
C
I know why you got your mom on the phone
D
Just call it cowboy intuition
G
I know why you’re late coming home

Chorus:
G
I’m hard to love, I told you that way back when
C
I got a drifters soul, You wont find no moss on this rolling stone
D
But its you and me and all these years
G
I got used to sayin through your tears.. hold on

Verse 2:
I know why you went to church on Sunday
Sometimes your prayers make it through that closed bedroom door
You thought that picket fence was yours one day
Thought you’d found what you’d been lookin for

Chorus

Em
Hold on
C
Hold on

Bridge:
D
Baby before you put that car in gear,
I’m telling you to come back here and hold on
