About This Song

The hook for this song came from a wine bag I saw at the grocery store.

Feedback Requested

I would like to know if this song works for today's market? Are there lyrical changes needed?

High Carol thank you for sharing your song.
Cool idea and I think drinking songs always work. Although I’m not sure if it is a real drinking song yet, I like the melody, but the song could use a bit more steam, it sounds a bit innocent. I also was wondering if it might be better to sing ‘we are what we drink’. This would perhaps animate the listener to sing along even more. I’m not a pro - these are just my personal thoughts about your song. Keep on!

Frank, Thanks for your input!. Changing from I to We is worth considering. I will have to run it past my co-writers. We decided to not make this a drinking song, but rather reflective. Thus the melody. The only part that could be considered as drinking/sing along is the bridge. But overall that was not the intention. vWe’ve received feedback from some pros and interestingly none had suggested that- so far. Again, thanks.

You Are What You Drink

Written by Carol Katterjohn

You can tell a lot about a person by what they’re downin’ at the bar
Like those frat boys slammin’ Patron, cuttin’ loose and partyin’ hard
I’m a Johnnie on the rocks, great scotch, no BS kinda guy
And my girl’s so high class like her red red wine

[CHORUS]
I think you are what you drink
So what are you?
Something frozen, something weak ( or 90 proof?
OR (Are you mellow or do you pack a punch like 90 proof)?
No, it ain’t what you wear, or how you look, or even what you eat
OR (Who you are sittin' at the bar says a lot more than you think)
The truth is short and sweet
Yeah you are what you drink

When a person has a go-to it’s hard for them to change
We’re all creatures of habit when it comes to hops and grains
If it’s fireball shots, or schnapps, or a tall boy ice cold brew
That’s okay, whatever it is, just let you be you

[CHORUS]

So fill your cups
And raise ‘em up
Show us what you’re made of

[CHORUS]
