About This Song

This is very fresh. I bought a new guitar and first time playing it gave me this bluesy song. Sometimes you need a little inspiration. I haven't worked on the lyrics very much, maybe it needs to be edit. I liked the hook idea - what do you think? That's me singing, do you think it's okay for a demo?

Frank, this is my favorite of what I’ve heard of your songs!  I really like the guitar riff throughout the song and your vocals sounded good, too.  I’m not so much of a lyricist, so I’ll leave that feedback to others.  But, I know what I like to hear, and this sounded good to me.  As I write this, I’m reminded of Procol Harum’s, WHITER SHADE OF PALE; I never could comprehend what that song was all about, but it was one of my favorites for a long time!!!

Jack , thank you so much for your feedback. It means a lot to me. I had the feeling that the song isn’t bad, but with feelings it’s such a thing. To hear it from another songwriter makes a difference.

Of course ‘A Whiter shade of Pale’ will stay forever. When I was a teenager, that was one of the songs we danced very closely with the girls. I’ll never forget what that felt like. It didn’t matter what the song was about, nobody understood that.

I love the melody. I would say lyrics are not always my strong point but I think they do need some refinement. I think you should consider having Baxter look at this one. The guitar riff was excellent and I like your voice. It would help if you took at least a few voice lessons. They offer them free on YouTube. Just a few lessons, like 10 or more. Your voice reminds me of the lead singer of the Psychedelic Furs. Personally, I love his voice.

Haydee, Good to hear from you! Thank you so much for your feedback. That someone likes my voice is something new and surprises me. I don’t consider myself as a singer at all, but thank you for encouraging me to improve my singing. Maybe I should really give it a try! Regarding the lyrics I will change the last verse and go back to the image of a child and it will probably end up in a bridge instead of a verse. That’s what pros have suggested. I know the lyric is a bit vague, but this is not a Country song. Thank you again! I hope we hear something new from you soon.

Frank brother, cool tune man, very different. I love the old western sounding guitar riff. It had an old western meets Santana feel to it. You did a great job with the vocals as well. If anything I would have liked to hear this more as a first person song, especially since it has the blues vibe, maybe like sometimes I cry, sometimes I shine into the you’s instead of she, but other than that, it was very creative and different and I dug it. Rock on!

Hi Stephen, thanks for listening and taking the time to comment. Old western meets Santana - LOL - love this description! If I write this in the first person, than the image love/child doesn’t work so well anymore. Everything should lead to the hook line.

Hi Frank, Awesome that your new guitar inspired you! I agree, new gear can do that, especially a new guitar…always a good excuse for me to buy more!

I like the message of your chorus, the higher melody line to emphasize it, and the harmonies you started for it.

Very nice guitar riff, which becomes a musical hook.

I like it!

Hey Reid, Thank for your feedback, good to know there is someone out there who got me!
If you still know how many guitars you have, you are still missing one - right?

Love is like a Child

Written by Frank Renfordt

When it calls your name
When it starts singing
you can't pretend like
you didn't hear anything

Innocent and sweet
it comes into our live
and you need to take good care of it
so that it grows and thrives

Sometimes it cries
Sometimes it smiles and shines
Sometimes it's running wild
Love is like a child

She took my freedom away
when she knocked on my door
but she made me feel something
I'd never felt before

One day she ran away
I know I did her wrong
and I hit rock bottom
it hurts so bad when she was gone

Sometimes it cries
Sometimes it smiles and shines
Sometimes it's running wild
Love is like a child

If what you thought was lost lost
comes back to you
then you know exactly who
your heart belongs to

Sometimes it cries
Sometimes it smiles and shines
Sometimes it's running wild
Love is like a child
