About This Song

Circles around the notion of "hearing" memories. How a song can immediately take you to another place or time and hold you there til it ends. The singer is in the middle of those memories when the songs end and comes back to reality with a smile!

Hi Tom, nice lyric, easy for everyone to relate to. Melodically I think the separation between verse and chorus is a bit weak. I would try to change the chorus melody a bit and make it more outstanding. That would help to make the song more interesting and to keep the listener. Keep on!

I Haven’t Heard That...

Verse 1
That song came on the radio
A Texas town of El Paso
And a cowboy who was riding through

To hold the girl he’d die to have
My mind went back to Mom and Dad
One summer day, I heard that record play
I couldn’t have been more than 9 or 10
But in an instant I go right back there again

Chorus 1
When the words and the chords and the melody
Bring the memories flooding back to me
Ah Man I swear I might as well be there

I smell the exhaust from their Pontiac
I hear that vinyl record crack
And that’s just when the song will end

I hear that tune and I just have to smile
And I haven’t heard that memory in awhile

Verse 2
Are Tommy and Gina still hanging on?
That takes me back to my Senior Prom
And a young girl who
God knows what happened to

We danced to every song that played
Never realized that we had it made
Didn’t comprehend how our dance would end
I hear Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a Prayer
And I can smell her perfume in the air

Chorus 2
When the words and the chords and the melody
Bring the memories flooding back to me
Ah Man I swear I might as well be there

We left the prom and our hometown
Headed for the shore with the T-tops down
And that’s just when the song will end
I hear that tune and I just have to smile
And I haven’t heard that memory in a while

Bridge
There’s no telling all the places I may go
Anytime I need to wander I turn on the radio

Chorus 3
When the words and the chords and the melody
Bring the memories flooding back to me
Ah Man I swear I might as well be there
On a sandy beach and I’m watching the waves
I’m together with family for the holidays

And that’s just when the song will end.
I hear those tunes and I just have to smile
And I haven’t heard those memories in a while
