About This Song

YOU STANDING THERE (written by Jack Speer, sung by Matt Dame, produced by John D. Willis):

A song I wrote about my wife, Julie. I met her at a party; one I so did not want to attend. But, immediately after arriving at this teachers’ party with some mutual friends, I saw Julie, threw caution to the wind, and introduced myself. The rest is history.

Hi Jack,
nice song. I like to hear Matt Dame here, did also several demos with him (you can hear him on Frettie on my songs ‘Back on the Road’, ‘Wild Horse Rider’ and ‘Once in a Lifetime Girl’).

I agree with you, Frank, in terms of Matt Dame.  BTW, I listened to What I know Now and I agree with you.  I might send this to Matt Dame, to see if he might do the vocals on this song.  I’m going to jump over to your song list and listen to Back On The Road, Wild Horse Rider and Once In A Lifetime Girl…  Looking forward to it!

Musically (not in terms of production, but in terms of being harmonically/melodically solid) this song leaves me a little flat. Best wishes in all your songwriting endeavors!!!

YOU STANDING THERE

Written by Jack Speer

Whenever I turn back the pages,
I can see you standin’ there.
I was shy, but I was shameless,
Like wild horses runnin’ scared.

That was then,
This is now.
What I was and who I am are turned around.

Confidence,
Is everywhere,
Since I saw you standin’ there.

Now I live in the moment,
I can’t wait to draw each breath.
Like awaking from a coma,
Gratified by what life is left.

This is now,
Not back when
I was without someone I believed in.

No more doubt,
More aware,
Since I saw you standin’ there.

Just when I thought my life couldn’t get much worse,
You appeared, standing there and everything reversed.

If you leave this world before me,
A fate I couldn’t bear.
I would grieve my days remaining,
Remembering you standin’ there;
You standing there.
