About This Song

WHAT I KNOW NOW (written, produced and sung by Jack Speer):

I wrote this song after having the usual parental concerns over my son while he was in his teens.

Hi Jack,

As a father of four and a little more mature, I can identify with your song. These are wise and true words you have found. What I don’t like that much about the song is the loud voice in the in chorus coming out of nowhere, it’s breaking the flow.

Thank you, Frank Renfordt, I’ll look into the chorus issue you pointed out.  Possibly running the vocal through some compression would fix this.  Again, thanks for pointing this out!

WHAT I KNOW NOW

Written by Jack Speer

As he was headin’ out the door I was wonderin’,
If what I know now, I could’ve known then,
Would I be much different than him?

Would I push a little harder;
Climb a little higher,
Knowin’ one day we’re gonna cash it all in?

What I know now, my perception;
Nothin’ profound, My Son.
What I know now, time is runnin’ out
And how we spend the moment we’re in is what I know now.

Son, you say you’re all confused;
Don’t know what you want to do
With the rest of your life.

Well, I believe you’ll rue the day,
If you don’t give your heart a say,
‘Cause, more often than not, your heart gets it right.

What I know now, my reflection;
Nothin’ profound, My Son.
What I know now, time is runnin’ out
And how we spend the moment we’re in is what I know now.

It’s amazing to me; but some people see the future somehow.
And some look back; live in the past – But, I believe in now.

I don’t advocate doing nothin,’
Son, no one wants to be a burden,
Least of all, to family and friends.

But, don’t let money be the driving factor,
If it’s happiness you’re after,
My greatest pleasures never cost me one red cent.

What I know now, my conviction;
Nothin’ profound, My Son.
What I know now, time is runnin’ out
And how we spend the moment we’re in is what I know now.
How we spend the moment we’re in is what I know now.
