FUNERALS & BIRTHDAYS (Written, produced and sung by Jack Speer):
I attended a funeral in my hometown to memorialize an old friend of our family’s. During the service and sitting in the pew in front of me was a childhood, longtime friend I hadn’t seen in ages. My friend said, “I’m embarrassed for you to see me with all my wrinkles and weight gain,” I replied that I hadn’t noticed; that she appeared “as she did when we were kids.”
Hi Jack, a nice idea, I have also some people I met unfortunately on funerals only. I think the song would have a better emotional impact if you would show us more about the relationship, some things you have done in the past together - maybe she was even your first secret love? The person you describe stays a bit too anonymous. The melody is nice but drags a bit, maybe you can increase the tempo a tad. Keep on!

They say time, changes everything,
The old and new, and in between.
And nothing here, looks quite the same;
The groves are gone, no passing trains.
But, friends of childhood days,
Suspend those aging ways.
I only wish I saw you more,
Instead of just at funerals & birthdays.
And In my eyes, you’ll never change,
Like winter’s skies and summer’s rain.
You appear, as you always did,
The way you were, back when we were kids.
And I don’t see your lines of age,
As we re-engage at funerals & birthdays.
In my eyes, you’ll never change,
Like winter’s skies and summer’s rain.
So, as we pay our last respects,
To a gentle man we won’t forget,
His memory, we’ll all embrace,
And speak of him at funerals & birthdays.
In my eyes, you’ll never change,
Like winter’s skies and summer’s rain.
And, so it is until the end,
I’ll wish you well, ‘til we meet again,
As we choose our separate ways,
I’ll look for you at funerals and birthdays.
I’ll look for you at funerals and birthdays.
