Sandra, I enjoyed the song a lot.  It would fit right in on a playlist with some Emiliana Torrini and Natalie Merchant songs.  It sounds well arranged and performed.  Country isn’t generally my style, but I can relate to it.

Nice song Sandra! Snappin’ those beans was always fun for me for about 15 mins as a kid. (Haha - pain & suffering) And thinking on ‘Blessed Assurance’, which was my grandmother’s favorite, really brings it all back real quick. Way to strike a memory up! Makes me not wanna’ leave the porch!

Sweet song. Love the cicadas line and, as always, your voice just blows me away.

I like this song because it takes me away. It sounds idyllic. I want to go to this place, listen to the hymns, snap beans, feel that Summer breeze, etc. I love the visual imagery. It makes me want to experience this and in a way, I am experiencing it through this song. I feel this song is just right, I wouldn’t want to change it. How wonderful that your grandmother gave you such a safe haven.

I love the sound of this one and your vocal! The last verse is awesome. Love the imagery there of the cans in the cellar and their “medals” which I’m seeing as the lids. But I guess the price could be the canned goods themselves.
This reminds me of Greg Browns “canned goods”. some similar imagery in that one.
I think the first 2 lines are unneeded. but I’m not saying they should go away…
Good work!

Summer Evenings (Studio Edition)

Written by Sandra Lyerly

D
There’s a memory I often think of
G D
From Long ago in the summertime
We’d snap beans and can tomatoes
A D
And music filled our simple country life

A D
Every time I hear those songs
A
I see her face
D
And those cool summer evenings
A. D
On the porch at my grandmothers place

Her grey hair, and silver glasses
Her sweet smile would brighten up your day
Her little house and garden patches
Felt so safe as she kept the old ways

Chorus

Instrumental on verse

Blessed Assurance, Rock of Ages
Where the Soul Never Dies
The harmony with night time cicadas
No sweeter sound could fill the skies

Chorus

Instrumental on chorus

Some thrones are gold and In stone castles
Some wood and wicker chair
Some medals worn on chests and shoulders
Some stacked high in the cellar with care

Chorus
