"Syria, West Virginia" was written about war-torn Syria, but when I sing it I also see places like Boone County, West Virginia in my head as well.
I love the simplicity of the production. The lyrics are very well written. Nice job!

My kind of song—very, very, very nice. Like Lisa, I love the sparse production.
‘Before the rubble, before the dust/Before God in Heaven stopped hearing us’ is a great couplet and a great line to close the chorus with. And I loved your title.
And I really loved the chorus but I was curious why you went with ‘About the days before things were gone’ instead of ‘About the days before things went wrong’? It seemed to me to be the more obvious choice. It would have made for the perfect rhyme instead of the near rhyme and it would have avoided a bit of semantic redundancy with the following line that talks about dust and rubble. (Of course, obvious choices are not necessarily the best choices and God, I hate to make specific line suggestions to a songwriter, I humbly apologize, but I can’t help myself this time—I kept hearing the near rhyme in my head every time the chorus rolled around.)
Anyway, you got my like and I’ll be checking out your other songs and looking forward to your new posts.

There were flowers in the garden beside the street
where we would play
There was laughter in the house before everyone went
away
Tell me a story, sing me a song
About the days before things were gone
Before the rubble, before the dust
Before God in heaven stopped hearing us
There were trees up on the mountains there was no fear in the dark
There was life in the river and there and was strength in our hearts
Tell me a story, sing me a song
About the days before things were gone
Before the rubble, before the dust
Before God in heaven stopped hearing us
No more flowers in the garden, no more garden no more street
No more laughter in the house, now there’s nobody left to meet
Tell me a story, sing me a song
About the days before things were gone
Before the rubble, before the dust
Before God in heaven stopped hearing us
Tell me a story, sing me a song
About the days before things were gone
Before the rubble, before the dust
Before God in heaven stopped hearing us

Absolutely beautiful song. I wouldn’t change a thing. It was great to listen to. I lived near WV for awhile and driving through some of the towns made it seem like time had forgotten them….its another world there in some places!
