Back in 1998 I was inspired by Alan Jackson's song "Right On The Money". It was written by: Phil Vassar and Charlie Black. I attempted my first "target writing" song exercise.
I know NSAI years ago gave me some pro feedback on this song. I recorded this demo before I joined the songwriting group back in 2005. What I should have done and what I didn't do was seek feedback on the lyrics. I could have saved myself some money in the long run.
You are welcome to give any kind of feedback. I think bits and pieces of this song could work as background music for a jewelry store ad.
What a great vibe to this song. Love that Texas swing feel. One guy’s opinion here, but I think what really sells these old country swing tunes is a memorable chorus, not just in the melody but really lyrically. That said, I think the second verse is where the heart of the song lies, and there is a chorus in there somewhere. X marks the spot, Cupid’s aim, Four letter man, one of those phrases is begging to get teased out more. What if Cupid was a bad shot? Which might explained how I got my girl! :D Cupid was drinking a few too many and messed the whole dance floor up. Lots of love that shouldn’t happen. Anyhow, overall I love the feel and I think you’re on to something!

Maybe Tomorrow
( Ronnie Glenn )
Every once in awhile that cupid don’t miss
When he’s right on target we seal it with a kiss
What I’m talking about is love sweetheart
So between you and me where do we start
CHORUS
They say it doesn’t happen overnight
And it’s not always love at first sight
But somewhere, somehow those feelings will grow
Trying to find true love can be tough
And sometimes you feel like giving up
Soon your heart will know where to go
If not today, then maybe tomorrow
Every now and then an X marks the spot
When cupid’s aim is true he knows who ties the knot
For better or worse he’s your four letter man
And love’s the only reason the heart can understand
REPEAT CHORUS
If not today…
Then maybe tomorrow, maybe tomorrow
Every once in awhile that cupid don’t miss
