About This Song

Went to Nashville on my March Break with my best friend. It was our first trip. My dad drove us from Guelph. We had so much fun. One of the things I tried to do was play out as much as possible and do a bunch of co-writes - Up was one of them.

Pretty cool song! The singer is absolutely fantastic for this song and production. Is it you are a hired gun? Either way… super. I like the imagery in the lyrics and that is, to me, THE most important aspect of lyrics… does it present an image? And yes yours does superbly. I’m not this age group’s demographic and don’t listen to much of this type of pop (my daughter would love it), but I believe you hit a home run here.

Hi Mikaylyn,

Very well written, and performed. As others have mentioned, the lyrics provide excellent imagery, and, in spite of using predominately minor chords, the song is still uplifting because of that imagery. The minor chords also embellish the underlying rebelliousness of the lyrics. To wit: “they can try to bring us down; we don’t move in that direction,...we don’t know how”.
Very good! I suspect this one has some very real traction, and I wish you every success!
By the way, who was your co-writer? Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback Roy, Robert and Brian - my co-writers on Up were Maddy Rodriguez and Johnny Simmen -they are canadians living in Nashville.  Lots head down there to chase the dream.

Hey, Mikalyn!  Thanks for sharing your song.  I’ve met Maddy a time or two- she’s good.  Glad to see you working together.  Song sounds great.  Love the idea and the bubbles and balloons image.  Well done (as usual).

Please pay it forward and leave a comment on another writer’s song.  Thanks!
