Hey, Janet!  Thanks for sharing your song with us.  I like how you drop in some “Jesus” references like “sheep” “preaching,” etc.  It’s good to keep your lyrics “on-theme.”

What about the title of “Another Jesus” or “Another Jesus Christ?”  That’s what I’d think to call it after a listen, not “(Self Proclaimed) Jesus Christ.”  In the chorus, how about “You think you walk on water,” which is a little more believable than a guy SAYING he walks on water.

Try to go for a more interesting 1st line than “Do you remember the day we first met.”  It’s a pretty generic opening line that feels over-done and not very interesting.  Judging by the rest of the lyric, I know you have cooler stuff in you- just dig a little deeper to get to it.

Cool idea.  I like the vibe.  It’s a little dangerous.  Some folks may be turned off by the religious aspect of it, but I like that you’re going for something compelling (while not being sacrilegious).  Some cool stuff here!

Please pay it forward by leaving a comment or review on another writer’s song.  Thanks!

(Self Proclaimed) Jesus Christ

Written by Janet Foley

Do you remember the day we first met
I was fooled by your eyes and the words that you said
Rolling like honey off of your lips
If only I'd've known it was one of your tricks
I caved like a lamb in a flock of your sheep
So you led me astray, way out of reach
Preaching to me like your words rang holy
Try'na get me to think you own me

CHORUS
You say you walk on water
Can turn it into wine
But maybe you oughta stop actin'
So divine
'Cos darlin' I've been talkin'
To the man on the other side
And we don't need another
Jesus Christ

Did you think that I would just stand by
Pretend I don't see your wandering eyes
Searching every bar for another disciple
To drink your red wine and stay for a while
Bless your heart, you're never gonna be saved
Until He says, your dues are paid
I won't stand in the shadow of your conviction
That I'm the cause of your crucifixion

CHORUS
