I originally wrote this song for my musical 'Postcards from God' (www.postcardsfromgod.co.uk) - this version is a little longer and with more generic lyrics that I recorded for an EP: https://open.spotify.com/album/4Ea9GfvhvKmfwAgD5tPWZW
The EP brought together some of my songs with a musical theatre / soul / gospel flavour and with this song in particular I'm wondering how I might pitch it to Christian artists, faith groups etc? As a secular person I don't have those connections...
HI Marcus. I agree that even with the secular lyrics, the music and groove still feels like it should be for a Broadway show. Like Brent, I’d like to hear your other lyrics that had more imagery and detail in it. Having won the Gospel/Christian category in the Billboard Song Contest several years ago, I know that that the Christian market is very particular about making sure that the lyrics are authentic, relatable but still Bible-based. I’m not saying you should quote scripture, but the songs should speak the truths that Jesus speaks in the Bible if that makes sense.

Hey guys!
Great responses here, thanks. I think it probably sounds more musical theatre because that’s where it ‘comes from’. So that makes perfect sense. I guess I thought that as the show is about someone religious it might translate directly, but that’s probably not the case. The alternative version is just shorter with some lines that only really make sense in the context of the show, so they’re not more religious as such. Interesting about mentioning scripture, I used the line about ‘don’t hide your light’ as that is from the bible, but thought it was too obvious at the time. Anyway, thanks for your feedback!

Hey, Marcus! Thanks for sharing. I like the musical groove. I like the idea. It feels kinda retro/theater- I’m not sure who in comtemporary gospel/ Christian music could cut it. But I’m certainly no expert. I’d be curious to hear the version with less generic lyrics. These lyrics were a little to plainly-stated and general for me. But there’s definitely some good stuff here.
