Hey, Robin- thanks for sharing.  I like the feel and general idea of the song.  The only thing I’d challenge you to do is to add more imagery to your lyric.  How can you say some of these things - with imagery?  Like, could you say “If I said I was always smiling” instead of “If I said I was always happy” for example.  Same idea, but it has more of a picture I can see in my mind.  Stuff like that.

Overall, I like it.  Keep writing!  And please pay it forward by leaving a comment on another writer’s song.  Thanks!

Hi Robin - I enjoyed your song.  The only time I lost the getting by vibe was right at the end in your last 2 lines. Other than that it was good.  Cheers for sharing it.  Good luck.

Getting By

I never grew up rich
I never grew up poor
Some say I never grew up at all
And they’re right for sure

I never had a life plan
Never had a plan at all
I waited to see where
And when the cards might fall

I tried to go with the flow
And react to whatever came
Always tried to put happiness
Before financial gain

If I said I was always happy
And my ideas always did fly
That would certainly be a lie
Getting by

Getting by

My one big chance at real love
Lasted one year and a day
She took me over and took me in
In every kinda way

When she left , she left me nothing
Not a single tear to cry
Since then I’ve been treading water
Getting by

Getting by

instrumental

Life will throw you curveballs
Its more often cruel than fair
Someone more than close to you
Is beyond your help or care

You do your best to face the facts
Try your best to prepare
One day you turn around
And noone’s there

Nobody’s there
