About This Song

Murray Daigle and Bobby John and I sat in the studio and wrote the song together. Murray came up with the beat and Bobby and I started with the song idea and the lyric.

Feedback Requested

For the frettie listener - does the song need more story or is it fine the way it is.

Hey Mikalyn,

Pop is not my usual area of interest, but I like your song a lot. The melody and your delivery stood out most.

From what I have read and heard, pop producers seem to use demo backing tracks a lot, so my advice would be to beef up the track, which is a bit sparse at the moment. That would increase your chances of being picked up, I hope: if you listen to Lorde you will hear that on some tracks there is quite a bit going on.

Hope this helps.
Be well,
Jackson

P.S. Check out my country stuff, if you’d like…

Mikalyn,

I really like the feel of this song. The melody is memorable with good repetition. I think the story is sufficient as is since it seems to be about feelings and emotions rather than a specific event. Let the imagination fill in the rest…

Hi Jackson, Charles - thanks for the feedback - very cool to get feedback.  I am huge fan of Lorde - but also the weekend where the tracks are sparse.  I did do about 8 layers of vocals on Mirror but Murray choose to keep it sparser.  Thanks so much for taking the time to listen and comment.

Mikalyn, Wow, you guys did a fantastic job with this song. The melody and the lyrics are great. I really dug the music and the feel though I would be super curious to hear something instrument wise that would really make the chorus jump out more and explode or at least the last Choruses. Something dramatic to accompany the raw emotion in the vocals. But hey, Im no critique and either way, its a really cool tune, great job!

Mirror - Mikalyn Hay, Murray Daigle and Bobby John
Verse 1
I dove right in
Didn't bring a parachute, fell right through, hit the water hard
Moving too fast,
Spiraling out of control, was touch and go, went a little far

Pre
You, you taught me how to turn a blind eye
I showed you how to keep a shoulder cold
no, no one walks away without a scar scar scar

Chorus
I've been digging through the pieces
Your heart is out of reach but
objects may seem nearer
through this rippled mirror

Verse 2
Try to erase,
the ink that's left upon my chest,
i'll attest, i don't really want to forget to forget

PRE
CHORUS
PRE
CHORUS

Outro
I dove right in
