Great song. I like the way you were able refer to coffee and Jesus with the same words.
I can’t find anything right away that I would change.
Great job!

Hey Brad - love it! is that you singing? great vocals. It’s such a clever idea, and it really works for me. The “shot of amen, grande hallelujah” is brilliant!

Thanks Graham and Dave! And thanks for the vocals comment Dave….it is me singing, but it’s only a worktape so they’re still a little shaky IMO.
We all hoped the bridge added a little “fun factor” to the song, and think that part especially would sound great in a writer’s round :D

It’s a cool concept! I always like when you start off thinking a song is about one thing, and then turns out to be about another, so nicely done there. Chorus could be longer, it feels like it’s cut short. And I don’t know where this would fit into the commercial country market (if that is your end game, if not, disregard). But definitely a cool way to take an idea and flip it!

Coffee and Jesus (Brad McKinney/Steve Smentek/Scott Voelkerding)
I need you every morning
Cause you help me start my day
I just might be addicted
And that’s OK
You make me whole, fill my soul, and you know that I can do
Anything the world can bring cause everything’s possible with you
[CHORUS]
When I need a little pick me up
No you don’t judge
You fill my cup with warmth and love
When I’m down and out
And I have my doubts
And I’m broken in pieces
There’s only 2 things that can lift me up
Coffee and Jesus
One‘s filled with caffeine
And the other can’t be seen
You either love ‘em or you don’t
There ain’t no in between
Oh yes, I’m blessed, I’d be a mess without ‘em both in my life
So for nonbelievers and nondrinkers I’m here to testify
[REPEAT CHORUS]
Gimme A double shot of Amen (Amen, Amen)
With a Grande Hallelujah (Hallelujah)
Another shot of Amen (Amen)
Come on let me hear ya
[REPEAT CHORUS]

Smooth vocals. It’s a stretch for me to believe that only coffee and Jesus picks you up, but that’s me and maybe it’s true. It is a unique idea for sure. It has a nice melody and it’s a really good flowing song. Starbucks Brad?
