About This Song

Guy professes that what he really needs in a woman is not that she has money, not that she is funny, etc. All that he wants is good company ... "someone to to rely on, a shoulder to cry on, someone to be there at night."

I get what you’re saying in the song, but… do you really want to call someone special, your soulmate, the love of your life, simply “good company”?  It feels negative and degrading to me.

On the plus side, I like the music.  It’s got a SoCal kind of vibe to it.  Vocally, I’d suggest raising the notes at the end of “someone to do it all right”.

You’re looking for a girl? – well, you’re like me
Your friends will all tell you … just what you need:
They say, she has to be funny -- well that makes me laugh
They say, she has to have money -- but I would pay half
They say, she has to be pretty -- but that’s not what I need
All that I want is some good company

Someone to rely on, a shoulder to cry on, someone to be there at night
Someone to take me, never forsake me, someone to do it all right
I need some good company

All that that I want is some good company

Someone to rely on, a shoulder to cry on, someone to be there at night
Someone to take me, never forsake me, someone to do it all right
I need some good company

You’re looking for a girl -- well you’re like me
Your friends will all tell you, just what you need:
They say, she has to be bright -- what’s she need to know?
They say, she has to be strong -- but I don’t think so
They say, she has to be cool -- well that means nothing to me.
All that I want is some good company

Someone to rely on, a shoulder to cry on, someone to be there at night
Someone to take me, never forsake me, someone to do it all right
I need some good company

Good company is what I need
Someone who loves me … thinks the world of me
Someone to listen when my teardrops glisten
Someone who cares when I’m gone
They say, she has to be cool -- well that means nothing to me.
All that I want is some good company

Someone to rely on, a shoulder to cry on, someone to be there at night
Someone to take me, never forsake me, someone to do it all right
I need some good company
I need some good company
