About This Song

Co-written w/Russell Sutton. A good ol' Texas dance hall two-stepping song with instructions on how to two-step that also work within the larger story. In the chorus, listen for "One," "Two," "Right" and "Left" for a mini-dance lesson.

Feedback Requested

Who would you want to hear sing this? Do the dance instructions work for you? Any and all input is always welcome!

I think the song has great potential. I feel like the vocals lag a bit. It just sorta has this lagging feeling. I don’t know what you can take from that but maybe it needs more of a crisps clean sound. I’m not quite sure but just thought I’d mention it. Hope it’s helpful.

Thanks, JC! I hear ya in regards to the vocals. I’m not the best vocalist… probably should get a real singer to track it! Or try harder to stay on top of the tempo.

Hi George, I think this song has potential…it’s quite catchy! I’m not sure who I hear singing this? Although you can carry the tune, I agree that another singer could make this song stand out. Good luck with it:)

Great structure - and I agree with Mary and George and JC - I think it would be neat to give the song to a vocalist and let them bring to the song to life!!  Its well written lyric and the melody is just waiting to fly off the sheet!!

Def. catchy for sure. I do like the dance instructions. I don’t see them distracting. I’m sure a vocalist would def. help pull this together, not really sure who I can hear singing this. The song has that nice classic early-mid 90’s feel to it that I really love so I always go back to that era when I hear songs like this. Look forward to hearing other stuff from you.

Also, poke around on here some I think I recall a few folks who have vocals as a skill set.

Two Steps at a Time ...

Two Steps at a Time – © R. Sutton and G. Irwin

Caught your eye, you were closing your tab
Offered to buy if you’d stay and chat
You said one drink, could’a been fate,
‘Cause we’re still talkin’ and it’s gettin’ late

Come on, you’ve been stallin’ all night
How ‘bout that dance, there’s just enough time
If you want to learn, I’ll show you the ropes
Take my hand, we can start in slow (with)

One step in the right direction
Left under neon lights
Too right, we got a connection
Let’s take it around baby one more time
My heart’s spinning, dance hall dreamin’
We can start forever tonight
If you let me, baby, I’m leading
The first step, two steps at a time

Feel the beat, put your head on my shoulder
Get close, a little bit closer
What’s going on with you and me?
Baby hold on if you want to see (take)
