Written together with Robin Monterosso, Michigan, US.
Written over Skype. I'm not sure how the story came about, but I know we wanted to write a song that went beyond the regular topics covered in contemporary songs.
All feedback appreciated!

Hi there! Whatever Will Be is song (and a co-write) that came to life during a songwriting retreat in Pidgeon Forge, TN. The assignment was to write something that could be featured in a movie. No other context was given. Storyline: woman reflects on her life, getting a notion (through observations) that her life is about to change. She doesn't know what's ahead of her, if it'll be good or bad, but that's alright: "Whatever will be will be". At the moment, we're revising the lyrics to see if we can make them more coherent. Best, Martin

The idea of the song came to me when I heard that a little girl I know had been diagnosed with leukemia (she's well today). I started to think about how she felt, alone, sad and vulnerable at the hospital, a long way from home. But for me, the hospital theme was a dead-end so I decided to change it to being locked away while keeping the overall theme. Don't know if I succeeded or not. All input is welcome!
Note: A few people already commented on using "the can", saying it's a term with a rather archaic ring to it. So I'll probably change that.

I think I picked up the title from a movie scene and instantly felt that it could be worth developing further. As I have two brothers of my own it as easy to imagine how it woul feel if one of them was in trouble and went missing. The lyrics are cowritten with a friend of mine (Ida Sköld).

The story is about the choice we have when we come across something dark or bad in our lives. It's written from three perspectives (a boy, a girl and the narrator). It's not the typical – or most commercial lyric approach - but the title line sort of draw me to that set up.
